Steve Garner has served as the Director of Finance for the City of Fostoria since October 2005. He was appointed by the Republican Central Party in October 2005 to fill out the remaining term of the prior auditor, who had resigned. Mr. Garner was re- elected in November 2011 and is currently fulfilling his second elected term.

A Fostoria native since 1972, Garner graduated from Fostoria High School in 1977. He is previously retired from 21 years of military service, including a year as a resource manager administering budgets. He has three associates degrees in various fields.

As City Auditor, Mr. Garner is a city employee who is responsible for keeping city government transparent and accountable, showing citizens that their government is behaving responsibly and using their funds wisely. In addition to performing audits, he also handles the financial accounts for the City, acting as the chief financial officer of the City. City auditors are usually independent of other city officials; Mr. Garner reports directly to city council and the citizens. Mr. Garner is also mainly responsible for most information technology and security for the City of Fostoria, acting as the “go-to” guy for any computer-related issues.

Mr. Garner says his favorite thing about his role as Auditor is “working diligently to balance budgets.”
