Compliance Officer/
Project Coordinator

40 hours per week – Monday – Friday 8AM – 5PM
Salary Commensurate upon experience - $48,500 - $60,000 

Serve as technical advisor to the City on regulatory compliance matters; coordinate project activities and recommend projects to better the City of Fostoria infrastructure. This person will work closely with the Safety Services Director. 

  • Maintain a thorough familiarity with the City of Fostoria Zoning Ordinances and all related forms.
  • Is responsible for the overall administration of the zoning ordinances.
  • Accepts and reviews building permit applications. Determines their compliance with the provisions of the zoning ordinance and the completeness of the applications.
  • Issues appropriate building permits when all provisions of the ordinances are in compliance and maintain a complete file of permits issued. Notifies applicant, in writing, if the proposed use is not in compliance with the ordinance standards, and assists with the appropriate alternative procedures, appeals, or any other administrative remedies necessary to attain compliance.
  • Attends Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals meetings, to report on zoning issues and advise on issues related to zoning administration. The issues may include but are not limited to: specific project proposals, special use permit applications, conditional use permit applications, zoning amendments, variances, and appeals. Evening meetings can be expected.
  • Coordinates with the Code Enforcement Officer(s) to maintain residential zoning compliance and nuisance violations.
  • Develops recommendations regarding zoning and other ordinance amendments, zoning permit fee structures, and zoning forms.
  • Uses good written and verbal skills to communicate with permit applicants, related governmental agencies, and other offices as necessary.
  • Assist in the development of various reports as required in the Consent Decree
  • Submit all reporting to the USEPA, OEPA and like reporting
  • Supervise professional consultants on projects
  • Regularly communicate with City administration on project updates
  • Maintain all records of projects
  • Review all reports and submittals from professional consultants
  • Coordinate efforts to improve wastewater treatment plant and sewer system operations.
  • Work cooperatively with all regulatory agencies 


Desired Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably with an environmental, engineering, or project management concentration. Professional certifications a plus. Experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.
  • Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) laws/regulations
  • Interest in personal and professional growth, to include growth in occupational health and safety
  • Exceptionally strong organizational skills
  • Self-driven and able to manage multiple and changing priorities with little direction and supervision
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills with the ability to develop multiple solutions to an issue and make valid recommendations for resolution
  • Able to organize and present data/information in creative and concise ways to make complex ideas understandable across all levels of the organization
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English proficiently.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT TO THE MAYOR AND
SAFETY SERVICE DIRECTOR

Hourly Wage - $12-$14/hour - Wages Commensurate upon experience

The purpose of this position is to provide confidential administrative support. This is accomplished by maintaining daily operations of the office including:

  • receiving/screening phone calls
  • assisting residents with concerns and complaints
  • scheduling appointments
  • preparing correspondence
  • processing inter-office mail
  • copying, scanning, and faxing documents as needed
  • ordering office supplies
  • processing all office invoices
  • preparing proclamations
  • comprising newsletters for residents
  • coordinating, writing, and distributing press releases
  • processing outgoing mail as necessary
  • posting information on the city website and facebook
  • planning  special events and meetings as needed 


Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:

  • Two-year college or technical school degree required
  • ​​One to two years of progressively responsible related experience; or,
  • Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job

Firefighter Entry Level Examination

Full-time Position – eligible for insurance and benefits
The City of Fostoria, Ohio will hold examinations for entry level Firefighter/Paramedic starting with a written examination starting
now- March 10, 2018. 

Sign up is through the National Testing Network www.nationaltestingnetwork.com select firefighter and sign up for the Fostoria, Ohio Fire Department. THE FIREFIGHTER MILE WILL ALSO BE CONDUCTED THROUGH THE NATIONAL TESTING NETWORK.

Applicants that are enrolled in Paramedic programs will be considered. Applicants must be
18-41 years of age at the time of appointment and must be a State of Ohio Certified
Paramedic at the time of appointment. In addition to the Written Examination, there will
be a Firefighter Mile and an Oral Interview. Lateral applicants will be considered, however,
can bypass the written examination but must complete a city of Fostoria, Ohio Application
and the Firefighter Mile.

911 Dispatcher – Part Time
Position Description

  • Acquires skills, training and certifications necessary to receive and process emergency calls as well as routine non-emergency calls. 

  • You will receive on the job training and will be required to complete a certification course for public safety telecommunications.  Further training will be provided for police, fire and EMS including EMD certifications.


Typical Duties

  • Operates telephone workstation to receive emergency (911) and non-emergency calls.  ​​​
  • Determines the type, location, and extent of emergencies. 
  • Inputs information from caller into report management system.  
  • Relays information to appropriate personnel or other agencies.  
  • Assists callers with basic life support procedures. 
  • Dispatches emergency equipment and personnel to scene and operates a radio console. 
  • Reads maps and gives directions to locations of the incident.  
  • Attends training sessions as required.  Employees subject to sit/stand for long periods of time.


Minimum Qualifications
YOU MUST MEET ALL THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO BE CONSIDERED.
